The Journey Begins
There are some things which cannot be put in words. Love is one of them and then there is Ladakh- the land of scenic beauty, rustic charm, and nature at its best. Nevertheless, I will try to pen down my experience of Ladakh as best as I can, trying hard not to lose myself in those brilliant moments spent in the lap of majestic Himalayas.
A road trip to Ladakh is no small feat- it is well and truly the stuff of dreams. Ladakh’s soundlessness, its cobalt blue skies, bright rainbows, and glistening lakes are pure magic.
Highlights of the Journey
This road trip boasts of iconic landmarks such as the highest motorable road in the world (Umling La); some of the highest mountain passes in the world such as Zoji La and Khardung La, Tanglang La; splendid scenic drives in remote regions, and some little-known gems such as the kaleidoscopic More Plains, Lamayuru, the mystical Hanle, Mad-Max Nubra, and the hypnotic Gata Loops. It is truly a road trip like no other!
The Ride Through India
The journey started with a very pleasant Bangalore waving me off to a scorching Middle India waiting for me at 50+ degrees. The diversity of India welcomed me with 13 states offering me a plethora of memories from their rich culture and food.
The different terrains shared a different round of stories, which embarked me to know more and more of what this country holds for us. Every turn of the road had a new story and memory to be kept with you.
The Magic of Ladakh
Simplicity and hospitality hold the nerve of Ladakh UT, and to cherry on the top was seeing our Milky Way with its uncountable stars, from Hanle. The stars kept blinking and smiling at our Earth. The mountains were so big and high to the sky, that it made me realize how small we humans are in front of nature.
Every corner of these untouched lovely places of India was guarded by our ultimate power - the Indian Army. Seeing their convoys made me feel, WOW, it’s the forces, the army, the guardian of the border.
Challenges and Triumphs
It is well said that the hardest road leads to the best destinations, and yes, to reach above the Everest base camp, you need to be mad to ride on the toughest roads or no roads. Central India gave me the eye of its rich and astonishing culture. People came asking about the mad-ride from one corner of India to another, and few were like, “I want to come with you…”
The Return Journey
The return down was as lovely as climbing to the top. After the harsh chilling weather, came the drops from the sky, which made it feel like, yes, “A dream achieved and on the way to cherishment.”
Final Thoughts for Aspiring Road Trippers
If you want to achieve something, dream for it and then aspire for it… It will come true. Someone once said, “I am seeing this in real, a very old dream seen with open eyes.”
Conclusion
A road trip to Ladakh is an extraordinary journey that tests your limits and rewards you with unparalleled beauty and unforgettable experiences. It's a blend of personal triumph, natural wonders, and cultural richness that leaves you with a sense of achievement and a treasure trove of memories.
