1. What happened after Lord Krishna’s cremation?
Mahabharata was not just the end of Kauravas, but it was the
beginning of the annihilation of Lord Krishna, the Yadava clan and
Pandavas. Many of us have either read or heard about the curse of Queen
Gandhari which led to the death of Lord Krishna, but no one knows that
even today one pivotal part of his body remains on Earth.
2. Dwarka city submerged
Today in this story, not only you will re-live the tale of
destruction post Mahabharata, the death and cremation of Lord Krishna,
but the shocking truth about the existence of his heart, which even
today resides on Earth.
3. Mahabharata destruction
On the last day of Mahabharata, the battle had come to an end
and Pandavas were not rejoicing their win. They had lost not only their
own sons and cousins, but several innocent warriors. The devastation
was such that it left even Lord Krishna stunned and speechless.
4. Gandhari's agony
From far away, both Pandavas and Lord Krishna could hear a
wailing shriek and in no time they realized it was none other than Queen
Gandhari. As she came near the lifeless body of her first born,
Duryodhana, she cried her heart out and bent over to hold her son’s body
one last time.
5. Pandavas and Krishna arrive to meet Gandharii
When her aid, Sanjay, informed about the arrival of Lord
Krishna and Pandavas, Gandhari enraged with pain, stood up and howled at
Krishna.
6. Gandhari - Krishna samvad
“You, the King of Dwaraka, who I worshipped every day, as the
avatar of the supreme godhead Vishnu, Are’nt you ashamed of your
doings? Should’nt you have averted this war with your divine will and
power? Is this what you do to your own creation? I have requested you,
each and every day in the past troubled times to avert this disaster. Is
this how you answer my prayers? Ask yor mother, Devaki, the pain of
losing a child. She had seven of her children being killed at birth and
now I have seen a hundred sons of mine being butchered to death.”
7. Gandhari: Dutiful wife, and devotee
Lord Krishna with a gentle laugh tried to console her by
saying that he indeed cautioned Duryodhana, and his brothers of the
destruction. This even ranged her more and she cursed him saying, “If my
years of Vishnu Bhakthi have been true, and if my Pathi Bhakthi since
my marriage has been unshaken and strong, then, may you die in 36 years
from today.”
8. Gandhari's curse on Lord Krishna
She continued, “May Dwaraka be flooded and may every one of
your Yadava kin perish by killing each other, just as you made the kins
of Kuru kill one another. Since the Yadavas cannot be killed by any
other race, they will die at each other’s hands. May the Yadavas die
out…. may the Yadavas die out….”
9. Krishna consoles Gandhari
When after her yelling, Gandhari fell down on her knees at
Lord Krishna’s feet; he lifted her up and accepted her curse. After the
coronation of King Yudhishtra, Lord Krishna returned to Dwarka, where he
for the next 35 years enjoyed his mortal life with wife Rukmini and son
Sambha.
10. Samba: Lord Shiva's boon to Krishna
When Rukmini was pregnant, Krishna had request Lord Shiva for
a son like him (knowing that he was the Lord of Destruction); thus
Sambha was born. Lord Krishna knew when the time would come; he will
play his part in the destruction of Yadava clan.
11. Yadava dynasty
The Yadava clan was living in such bliss that they forgot the
true meaning of humility, love, discipline, and moral. And, when it was
time for the curse to finally take place, an unexpected series of event
took place.
12. Saptrishis arriving in Dwarka
Once Sapt Rishis were visiting Dwarka to meet Lord Krishna
and his brother Balrama, and seeing them approaching Sambha along with
his friends devised a prank. He dressed up as a woman and planted an
iron belt over his stomach, to pretend pregnancy. He wanted to test the
power of rishis.
13. Samba mocking sages
He asked them, “O’ mighty sages, with your divine powers,
will you please tell me the gender of my unborn child?” Hearing him, one
of the sages was quick to realize they were being fooled. In his anger,
he cursed him, “May the very thing that he bears in his stomach be born
to him. And that thing will lead to the extinction of the entire Yadava
clan.” Sambha and his friends ran away laughing at them.
14. Yadavas's destruction weapon
Next day, Sambha complained of intense abdominal pain and
Lord Krishna was informed. When he and Balrama came in to see him, they
saw a large piece of iron mace kept next to Sambha. The latter and his
friends then informed every one of the Sapt Rishis’ curse. Akroora and
Ugrasena immediately ordered the mace to be crushed to powder and cast
into Prabhas River. All, but one triangular piece of the maze was
crushed and thrown into the river.
15. Fisherman story from Dwarka
The powder deposited near the bank and led to the growth of
plush grass. However, the left out metal piece was later swallowed by a
fish, which was hunted by the fisherman nearby. He cooked the fish and
while eating, found the big triangular iron piece. In order to reshape
his harpoon, he used the same piece.
16. Yadavas ensued battle
One day all the men of the Yadava clan gathered on the banks
of Prabhas River for a merry night. They drank all night and got
intoxicated. Satyaki and Krithavarma, who were also present and highly
intoxicated, started fighting over the acts of each other during
Mahabharata war. All the men were divided into two groups- Satyaki’s and
Krithavarma’s. They began pouncing on each other, and soon a war
ensued.
17. Krishna destroying Yadavas
Lord Krishna was nearby and knew the time had come, so the
discreetly plucked the plush grass and threw it amid the fighting men.
In their ignorance, the men started throwing the grass on each other,
which unbeknownst to them, was the same iron mace, which was predicted
to be the destruction of Yadava clan. One by one everyone was killed.
18. Lord Krishna's death
When Lord Krishna was sitting in grief over how it all ended,
he was struck by a harpoon, pointed on him by the fisherman, who
thought it was a deer. Knowing of what he had done, he apologized and
cried in front of dying Krishna, who consoled him and made him remember
that in their previous births they were Lord Rama and Bali.
19. Cremation of Lord Krishna and Balram
When Arjuna had arrived to help with the rest of Pandavas,
they saw both Balrama and Krishna dead. Quietly, they cremated them
both, while Balrama’s mortal remains were burnt to ashes, Lord Krishna
body too turned into ashes, except his heart, which still kept burning.
Following the rituals, Arjuna washed their ashes and the burning heart
in the river.
20. Dwarka engulfed by sea
And after Pandavas left, taking along all the women and
children to Hastinapur; entire Dwarka submerged under the sea, and with
it everything was swept away including the burning heart of Lord
Krishna, which by now was turned into a soft iron rod.
21. King Indradyumnaa's dream
King Indradyumna was a devout worshipper of Lord Vishnu, and
incessantly asked him to pay him a visit. One night in his dream, he was
told of that he will find his lord in the form of Nila Madhava. Next
morning he ordered a search of Nila Madhava. When he located it, he
brought it back with him and setup Lord Jagannath temple.
22. Mystery of Lord Jagannath
While bathing in the river, one day, King Indradyumna was
astonished to see a soft iron rod floating. When he picked it, he was
whispered by Lord Vishnu, who told him that it is his heart that would
remain on land forever. Indradyumna immediately rushed with it to the
Lord Jagannath idol and discreetly placed it inside him. He banished
anyone to ever touch or see this rod ever.
