"The power of the lawyer is in the uncertainty of the law." -  Jeremy Bentham

This is the best quote that we can say at this moment for the future of IT in Kolkata. Surprisingly the third largest metro city of India, is lagging behind for generating any kind of employment but producing India's largest number of talent resource. During the end time of CPM, this city was introduced with New Town Rajarhat and Sector - V what produced huge number of jobs but unfortunately presently it is even behind small city like Pune also. Kolkata faced the flow of IT during 2000 - 2009 while visionary CM of West Bengal - Mr. Bhattacharya was in chair.

But in last 7 years it is losing everything. Rajarhat was planned and made under the conception of latest modern city what can run along with IT giants like Bangalore, Hyderabad or Gurgaon. This portion of the city has everything - buildings, roads, over bridges, amusement parks, shopping malls, hotels, airport and all the other facilities that a modern city should have except companies and projects. During the rule of TMC, the city almost lost everything except some few companies with very limited number of projects. Our basic objective is to find out the details.

Big MNC wise, this is the present situation in Kolkata:

IBM: It is still SAP hub for IBM India but due to global downfall, it's loosing projects and not in very good shape

Capgemini: Although, at present its situation is not good but still they failed to grow the Kolkata center

CTS: Definitely in good shape but cannot grow like it should and Pune has taken over a large portion of its projects

TCS: Definitely in good shape compare to other companies in Kolkata but only one is taking the full pressure

Deloitte: Dealing with few domestic projects where you have to travel and IT people do not prefer to travel as they have better option in other cities

KPMG: Same like Deloitte

E&Y: Same like Deloitte

Wipro: Once it had huge projects of different sections of IT but right now it is working as BPO center and few SAP projects are running

PWC: Very good place in terms of project quality and number but mostly dealing with domestic projects hence the same condition comes

Accenture: Very small office with few projects running and its like they just have a branch only

Apart from these, several small and medium level companies used to start their business but they also left due to several reasons like - strikes, increasing floor charges, political instability, not getting SEZ facility, threats from local syndicates etc. Remarkably, Didi who destroyed the dream of Nano in Bengal, had also stepped forward for not giving SEZ to Infosys and Wipro. As a result, Infosys denied to come and shifted to Bhubaneswar though they were allotted with sufficient lands. Along with that, Wipro denied to increase its business for the same reason.

A statistics says - only Bangalore is holding 8.5 lakhs Bengalis where as the other cities are also holding Bengali resources in their talent pool what could be used in Bengal itself. For long, we suffered by communist rule who were Anti-Corporate and later by TMC which one is more pathetic. Bengal is untouched from national parties since 1977 and all the regional parties are actually ruining the producer of talented students every year.

The well known fact is - IT Capital was planned to be in Kolkata during 1990 but it shifted to Bangalore for the great effort of the former chief minister of WB - Jyoti Basu. His vision was to engage people in politics more than employment. But the fact is - if the same tradition is going on then the day is very near when there will be no one working in Kolkata IT and the whole investment made for new town would be taken granted for several promoters just for selling their apartments.

Now Bengal & Bengalis need to think for the outcome of the problem.
